The Star family of care abides by requirements as enacted by the Ohio Legislature which has set standards that must be followed when hiring home care employees, RC 3317.881 and Ohio Administrative Code (OAC) 3701-60-1, these two requirements ensures the exercise of reasonable diligence on the part of the employer when scrutinizing applicants for hire.
The above legislation outlines the employer’s responsibility for the checking of six (6) separate databases for any information regarding the employee / applicant these databases include:
If the applicant has not been found to have been listed on any of the above data bases, Star Services then conducts a fingerprint background check through the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation BCII), subject to an additional Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) search if the applicant has not been a resident of Ohio for five or more years.
According to Ohio Administrative Code 3701-60-09, where it states that when an employer such as Star Services completes these processes they then cannot be found to be negligent based on their reliance on the BCII report, even if the information is determined later to have been incomplete or inaccurate. In addition to the above checks, Star Services will and does reach out to previous employers and seeks comments regarding an applicant’s previous work related performance. Star Family of Care only hires applicants that have passed each of the above background checks.
